Medicine Wheel teachings come from the indigenous people of North and South America. The Origin Teachings of the Delicate Lodge, which is the lineage that Pele Rouge and FireHawk carry, originated with Pre-Mayan Earth People and were honed over thousands of years of experience and observation. They were passed on by Medicine People in an oral tradition.


Each Medicine Wheel is a map of wholeness, using 4, 8 or 16 points on a circle. Each point describes a particular energy, distinct from the others. As each unique perspective is considered, our awareness and understanding of an issue or condition is broadened and deepened.  It becomes easier to see the "right" course of action for any given situation.


An example: one Medicine Wheel is called the Human Elements Wheel and describes the essential elements that make up a human being. Imagine a circle with a mark in the North, East, South and West points of the compass.


In the East of this wheel is the element of Spirit

In the West, the element of Body

In the South, the element of Emotion

and in the North, the element of Heart-Mind


One way you can use this Medicine Wheel is to train your ability to be aware of the condition of these four distinct elements within you at any moment in time. "Walk around" this wheel in your mind at the beginning of each day. Ask yourself the following question: What is the state of my Spirit this day? On a scale of 1-10, how would I measure my Sprit’s vitality? If I respond with a low number, what would be needed this day to brighten my Spirit?


Do the same with each of the other elements. What is the state of my Body this day? What is my emotional state this day? What is the state of my mind, my thoughts this day? And in each case - What is needed by each element? After responding to each question, you will have a clearer picture of your current state and ideas for actions to take to increase the level of wholeness and balance within yourself.
